Palm Springs Golf Course Review
Heritage Palms Golf Club in Indio is a beautiful Arthur Hills design that has been recognized with 4 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. The course is a very player friendly layout, and features extraordinary views with a variety of palm trees framing manicured fairways and greens with spectacular mountain backdrops.
Bunkers and sand waste areas frequent this 6700 yard par 72 layout, which provides four sets of tee boxes that are evenly interspersed to afford all levels of players an opportunity to choose a set that fits their game. The championship tees measure 6727 yards with a 124 slope; the regular tees play to 6293 yards/119 slope for men and 129 for women; the middle tees measure 5577 yards/111 slope for men and 120 for women, and the forward tees play to a slope 108 from 2885 yards.
Wide, undulating fairways play to medium sized undulating putting surfaces, with spectacular mountain views along the way, as the course meanders through an upscale residential community. On our late August 2005 visit, the playing surfaces were in wonderful condition. Cart paths and fairways are marked with 100, 150 and 200 yard indicators, and color coded flags provide pin placement info for front, middle and back hole locations. On property is a grass range with bunker, practice green, plus full service clubhouse with pro shop and restaurant/lounge serving beverages and lunch items. Banquet facilities can accommodate up to 350 people.
The design includes a group of aesthetically beautiful par threes, ranked the 12th, 13th, 17th and 18th handicaps - that play to between 139 and 169 yards from the white (regular) tees. The 4 par fives are reachable in two for long hitters, and from the white tees there is just one par four in access of 400 yards in length. There are over 50 sand bunkers/sand waste areas located along the fairways or greenside, and water comes into play on seven holes, including number 17 and 18 which both present lakes along the right side which squeeze the landing areas near the green.
Changes in elevation occur on several holes, most noticeably on the par five 7th which plays from and elevated tee area, as does the par three 11th. The variety in design and location of the hazards creates an interesting golf experience that can be enjoyed by all levels of players.
