Palm Springs Golf Course Review
General info
Rated 4 1/2 stars out of five by Golf Digest Places to Play, Tahquitz Creek in Palm Springs affords golfers with an opportunity to play two championship courses that were originally designed by William Bell and Ted Robinson. Tahquitz Creek is the only Palmer managed golf facility in the Palm Springs area, and the two layouts are distinctive in design. The Resort Course provides significant challenge over a rolling terrain highlighted by challenging green complexes, abundant bunkering and water hazards in play on nine holes. The Legends is a player friendly design with wide landing areas and open green complexes.
On property is a grass range, 2 putting greens and a short game area with sand bunker. The clubhouse includes a pro shop plus the Tradition Restaurant and lounge with breakfast and lunch menus available every day in season. The marking system on course is comprehensive with sprinkler heads measured to the front, middle and back of the greens, and Kirby markers in the center of the fairways of par fours and fives at 100, 150 and 200 yards. Each tee box also provides measurements to the green's center.
The Legend Course
The Legends Course features 4 sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 6815 yards/123 slope, 6504 yards/121 slope for men and 129 for women, 6211 yards with a 117 slope for men and 125 for women, and 5811 yards with a slope of 122. The course winds along a fairly level terrain, with most of the holes fairly straightforward. Many of the green complexes are guarded on the sides by sand bunkers, but the putting surfaces are generally open in front and provide relatively easy up and downs.
Holes one and two are similar in nature and shape to the opening two holes on the back side - pretty much straight away golf holes. The fairways are a bit wider than those on the Resort Course, making this course very user friendly, and recommended for high handicappers and beginning golfers. The greens are also fairly flat and only slightly raised. The conditioning and mountain vistas are the same as those found on the more challenging Resort Course.
Tahquitz Creek is situated in a beautiful golf environment. The two courses and practice facilities provide a well rounded golf experience. During summer months, the restaurant/lounge tends to close during non-busy periods, so call in advance if you are expecting to each breakfast or lunch here. With reasonable rates and good conditioning, this is one of the area's better golf values. For more info, visit our page for the Resort Course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
