Trilogy Golf Club at La Quinta

Trilogy at La Quinta is home to the Skins Game - and provides the golfing public with an opportunity to play where the pros play at affordable prices. Surrounded by natural desert vistas and complimented by meandering fairways, crystal lakes and flowing greens, the Trilogy is a Gary Panks championship design that was created for the fun, challenge and reward of all levels of players. The Trilogy's commitment to a high quality golf experience has earned the property the pleasure of hosting the Merrill Lynch Skins Game, with players like Tiger Woods, Fred Couples, Adam Scott and Annika Sorenstam annually gracing its fairways each fall in an event that can be viewed on national television.

The clubhouse at the Trilogy at La Quinta features a full service pro shop plus restaurant/lounge that serves breakfast and lunch menus daily, with dinners on Friday evenings. The Chicken Caesar Salad is great! There also is a comfortable outdoor patio which affords wonderful golf course views. On property is a complimentary, targeted grass range stocked with Nike practice balls, plus a large putting green and short game area with sand bunker. Golfers will find ball & club washers and ice chests on each cart.

Despite numerous ponds and streams, plus abundant high quality sand bunkers, golfers will find this course a fair challenge. The forced carries off the tee are reasonable in length, with the distances scaled down from the six sets of tees. The tips play to a formidable 7175 yards with a slope of 130 and the black tees are also a challenge at 6883 yards/127 slope. The blues measure 6455 with a 124 slope for men and 133 for women and the golds (recommended for the average player) play to a reasonable 6004 yards and a 118 slope for men/ 128 for women. As evidenced in the above photos, the green complexes are large and mildly undulating, and are frequently framed with gorgeous mountain backdrops. Throughout, golfers will encounter manicured conditioning and exquisite landscaping, with native shrubbery, flower arrangements and plentiful palm trees adorning the property.

Set at the base of the ruggedly beautiful Santa Rosa and Coral Mountains, the Trilogy provides golfers will all the info they will need to play an enjoyable round. On course players will find sprinkler heads that are measured to the center of the green, and pin placement locations that are rotated daily, with the 6 areas diagrammed on each scorecard. The starter notifies each golfer of the day's pin placement. As indicated by the photos below, water hazards are frequently in play on the back nine, which is featured in this pictorial review. The front side was closed due to scheduled course maintenance during our mid June 2005 visit.

The area surrounding the 17th green and 18th tee is outrageously beautiful, and is representative of our impression of Palm Springs golf - mountain views, palm trees, water - set in an aesthetically pleasing environment that features wonderful course conditions and interesting golf holes. The 17th is a par three featuring a carry over water, with the wind frequently calling for an extra club -  as the saying goes - take one extra club or use two extra balls! The 18th begins from a slightly elevated tee to an ample but well bunkered fairway, and leads to a plateau green protected by water hazard short left and behind. This is a great way to finish a truly enjoyable round.

The Trilogy at La Quinta, like its sister properties (see our reviews of Vistancia and Power Ranch on our Arizona site) promotes ecology and sound environmental practices by supporting wildlife habitats and by incorporating and protecting natural desert washes. Reclaimed water is also used. At the same time, Trilogy properties promote active and responsible adult lifestyles in their upscale residential communities. Residential opportunities are available here, and annual golf memberships and coupons are also offered. The public is always welcome, with rates varying seasonally from $39 to $149, including cart and range balls.
