Desert Willow Golf Resort offers 36 holes of championship desert golf on layouts designed by Mike Hurdzan, Dana Fry and PGA Tour professional John Cook. The Firecliff and Mountain View courses have been rated 4 out of 5 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play, with each providing five sets of tees that make for challenging test for experienced players, while also providing a fun and rewarding round for amateurs.
Recognized as the crown jewel of desert golfing, the Desert Willow layouts provide all the excitement and vistas of desert golf, without the long forced carries that are sometimes prevalent on these types of layouts.
On property is a beautiful clubhouse that features a wonderful pro shop, locker room facilities, restaurant & lounge that provides an extensive lunch menu, and an outdoor patio that affords spectacular golf course views. There is a full service practice facility with targeted grass range, putting greens and short game area. Pro Link GPS is standard on all carts, as are ball & club washers and ice chests. Each course also has sprinkler heads that are measured to the center of the green, plus 100, 150 and 200 yard blocks posted on the fairways.
Mountain View Review
The 5 sets of tees on the Mountain View Course provide yardages and slopes measuring 6913 yards/130 slope, 6490 yards/128 slope, 6097 yards/126 slope for men and 130 for women, 5573 yards/121 slope for men and 123 for women, and 5040 yards with a slope of 123. We found Mountain View to be the easier of the two courses on property, with wide, finely manicured fairways and gorgeous green complexes.
This is one incredibly beautiful golf course - it is called Mountain View for a reason! The hole designs roll through the desert terrain with sweeping landing areas bordered by lush landscaping, offering tremendous panoramic vistas. Sand bunkers are numerous and can be high lipped and penal, but few are located directly in front of the greens, which usually present open fronts that are conducive to running chips and pitches. Water hazards cutting closely in front of some of the putting surfaces do pose challenges on a few approaches. Most golfers will have an opportunity to use every club in their bag, including driver. We would definitely classify this course as a "must play" in the Palm Springs area.
The Academy at Desert Willow offers comprehensive programs for golfers of all skill levels, with a variety of lessons and golf schools available. This property is well equipped for hosting outings and special events - with a capacity for up to 240 inside and another 150 guests outside, plus special corporate and meeting rooms. The service here is designed to meet expectations for a variety of functions from weddings to banquets to seminars. This is a wonderful course - set in a wonderful environment!
