THE DUNES COURSE
The Dunes and Mountain Courses at La Quinta share clubhouse and practice facilities. This includes a beautiful restaurant/lounge with outdoor patio, locker rooms with showers for men and women, and a full service pro shop. There is a targeted grass range, short game area and putting greens. Both courses have yardage marking systems that include 100, 150 and 200 markers on the cart paths and fairways, sprinkler heads that are measured to the front, middle and back of the green, and color coded flags to indicate front, middle and back hole locations.
The terrain at the Dunes varies from nearly flat to extremely undulating, with wide fairways and small to medium sized, sloping putting surfaces that are often raised. The opening hole presents one of the most scenic backdrops on the course with a pond in front and mountains behind framing the green complex. Numbers 12 and 13 also feature significant water hazards, and the par five 15th is visually striking, as the hole plays directly into the mountains.
The course winds through the La Quinta residential community, with spectacular vistas at every turn. There are 78 soft white sand bunkers situated along the fairways or greenside, and water comes into play on 6 holes. Five sets of tees play to distances and slopes measuring 6682 yards/134 slope, 6324 yards/128 slope, 5846 yards/122 slope, 5325 yards/116 for men and a slope for 126 for women, and 4877 with a slope of 123.
This is a challenging, yet non intimidating golf experience, that can be enjoyed by novices and experts alike. It fits in perfectly for the average golfers on a resort vacation, seeking an enjoyable round in a beautiful golf environment.
