MESQUITE COUNTRY CLUB (760-992-5158)
Palm Springs Golf Course Review
The Mesquite Country Club in Palm Springs is a player friendly 18-hole championship design, featuring tree lined fairways and manicured greens in a beautiful setting, with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The course was in outstanding condition during our early January visit. This is also one of the area's better golf values.
There is an abundance of palms and other native trees on property, though the foliage is not dense - most of the mildly rolling fairways have ample recovery room. Greenside golfers will find slightly raised complexes with medium sized, mildly sloping putting surfaces that usually slant from back to front. There are 46 soft, white sand bunkers situated near the greens or along the landing zones off the tee. 10 holes also have water in play in some shape or form.
Three sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes that measure 6312 yards/122 slope, 5945 yards/118 slope, and 5330 yards with a slope of 120 from the forward tees. As these slope ratings indicate, this course can be enjoyed by beginners and high handicappers, who will find the wonderful views and fairly level terrain inviting. Avid golfers will appreciate the finely conditioned putting surfaces and overall conditioning, as well as the aesthetic beauty of the experience.
Clubhouse facilities include a pro shop, locker rooms with showers for men and women, a snack shop, plus restaurant/lounge that is used on special occasions. Banquet/outing facilities can accommodate up to 200 people. Also on property is a grass range, short game area for chipping and bunker practice, plus a putting green.
On Course, yardage markers are posted at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and color coded flags indicate front, middle or back pin placements. There also are rocks posted on both sides of the fairways at 150 yards. Mesquite Country Club has undergone an ownership change, and the entire property is being meticulously cared for. We recommend this as an opening round on a Palm Springs golf vacation - a nice experience with some good challenges, but nothing too intimidating.
